Validation of COMPRION GSMA SGP.23 Type B Device Tests Activates New GCF Work Item

Mitteilung:

Testing consumer devices in terms of their RSP functionality including SM-DS becomes part of the GCF mobile type approval certification program

The tests specified as Type B by the GSMA are now part of the GCF mobile type approval program. “Manufacturers of consumer devices who want to use their smartphones, tablets, PCs, or smartwatches in the GSMA eSIM environment, now must prove that their devices correctly support switching of the operator. This is done by the GCF certification. It is an important step for a globally compatible eSIM ecosystem,“ explains Frank Oberhokamp, Product Manager for eUICC test solutions at COMPRION.

“Thanks to COMPRION these tests are now part of GCF“, Oberhokamp is delighted. The validation of the COMPRION GSMA SGP.23 RSP Device Test Bench on January 17/18, 2018, activated a new work item at GCF: GCF WI-276.

The GSMA – as the driving force and specification body for eSIM and RSP functionality – has developed a series of specifications with the aim of making the eSIM technology and the relevant services globally interoperable and reliable. GCF is one of GSMA’s industry partners providing certification for the eSIM technology using GSMA’s defined tests.

In November 2017, the validation of Type A tests has already led to the activation of the first GCF Work Item (WI-274) for device tests.

Certification of eUICCs – The Ticket for the GSMA eSIM Ecosystem

Thanks to the GlobalPlatform qualification of COMPRION eUICC Consumer Devices card tests, test labs and card manufacturers are able to certify their eUICCs for the GSMA eSIM ecosystem.

To become part of the closed GSMA eSIM ecosystem, all applicants – meaning eSIMs, servers, and devices – must prove that they meet the GSMA requirements. “This ensures that the individual players authorize each other as ‘interlocutors’ and that they are able to communicate,“ explains Dr. Frank Oberhokamp, Product Manager eUICC Consumer Devices Test Solutions at COMPRION. The GSMA as “gatekeeper” of the eSIM ecosystem requires the potential participants to certify their products. “For the eUICC manufacturers, this means that they must pass the required tests of the GlobalPlatform Card Compliance Program successfully,“ according to Oberhokamp.

Test labs and eUICC manufacturers themselves must use a test solution qualified by GlobalPlatform. COMPRION has received this qualification during the last GlobalPlatform TestFest on December 13-15, 2017 in La Ciotat/France. Two COMPRION eUICC Consumer Devices card test benches have been qualified: 1) GSMA SGP.23 RSP eUICC Consumer Devices Test Bench (which checks the profile download) and 2) SIMalliance eUICC Consumer Devices Profile Package Test Bench (which checks the profile interpreter on the card).

COMPRION eUICC Profile Manager Supporting Phase Two of GSMA Specifications for Consumer Devices

Mitteilung:

COMPRION’s modular tool for efficient eUICC life-cycle management now supports phase 2 of the GSMA specifications for consumer devices. Phase 2 of SGP.21 and SGP.22 will be the new basis for worldwide interoperability of Remote SIM Provisioning for consumer devices. The eUICC Profile Manager for phase 2 will be introduced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The eUICC Profile Manager is a tool designed for mobile network operators, card manufacturers, system integrators, or service providers. Jens Christoph, Director for eUICC Test Solutions at COMPRION explains: “It helps engineers coding eUICC profiles to easily load the defined profile onto the card. As the tool is very convenient to use, it prepares the eUICC for further usage or testing.”
The software consists of two components. The Profile Loader can be used to load, enable, disable, or delete profiles of M2M or consumer device eUICCs. With the Profile Explorer option, users can scan and update already provisioned profiles using remote file and application management (RFM and RAM) procedures.

The eUICC Profile Manager is compliant to both – the latest version of the GSMA M2M specification SGP.02 V3.1 and the Consumer Device specification SGP.22 V2.0.
All relevant transport channels, secure channel protocols, and all subscription management servers of both GSMA eUICC realms are covered, which makes eUICC Profile Manager an essential all-round tool for anyone working with eUICCs.

COMPRION Launches Software for Managing eUICC Profile Functionality

Kategorie der Pressemeldung:
Mitteilung:

COMPRION is the only test company so far to configure and provision eUICCs soldered into a device

COMPRION eUICC Profile Manager is a new piece of modular software that consists of a set of server simulations which access the various eUICC capabilities. eUICC Profile Manager covers both GSMA eUICC specifications: M2M and Consumer Devices. Hajo Sandschneider, Marketing Director at COMPRION explains, “By performing the regular remote SIM provisioning scenarios in a lab environment, devices that are equipped with eUICCs can be prepared and preconfigured for usage or testing purposes, for example, the network interface. COMPRION eUICC Profile Manager is the most suitable tool for this task.”
The software allows mobile network operators and eUICC manufacturers to manage eUICC profiles by editing their application and file content. The software also supports device and module manufacturers in various industries to ensure eUICC profile functionality and to launch reliable services.

New COMPRION Software Reduces The Complexity of Testing Reliable and Interoperable eUICC Deployments

Kategorie der Pressemeldung:
Mitteilung:

The SIM card – the secure element in mobile communication which is used for authentication and identification within the network – will be increasingly replaced by the eUICC, a SIM that is firmly soldered into mobile devices. The first connected services are launched, and eUICCs are starting to be actually used in cars and smart watches. Some of them are still based on proprietary standards. Therefore, the need for making the technology reliable and interoperable becomes greater than ever before. The GSMA has issued specifications for remote provisioning procedures in M2M and consumer devices. Now, COMPRION has launched a new software solution for interoperability testing: COMPRION Network Bridge. It facilitates the complex processing of remote administration scenarios in a lab environment using a controlled and lightweight setup.
