Im Frühjahr 2016 und 2019 erfolgte die Entnahme von Proben aus Baumsaft von durch den jährlichen Rückschnitt verletzten Bäumen und Sträuchern, wie beispielsweise Birken, Buchen, Hainbuchen und Hartriegel. Es ist bekannt, dass in dem zuckerreichen Saft der Bäume viele Mikroorganismen, damit auch Hefepilze leben können. Aber die Vielfalt der Hefen, die in Baumsaft vorkommen, ist noch unbekannt. Die von Doktor Yurkov neu entdeckte Hefe trägt den Namen Mrakia fibulata sp. nov. (DSM 103931). "Spezies der Mrakia-Gattung bevorzugen eher kalte Lebensräume wie Gletscher, Eis und Permafrost, Mrakia fibulata ist die erste dieser Hefen, die bei einer Temperatur von mehr als 20 Grad Celsius wächst", stellt der renommierte Pilzspezialist fest.
