München, den 27. Juni 2019. Vierzehn Jahre baute die Stiftung Menschen für Menschen - Karlheinz Böhms Äthiopienhilfe im Projektgebiet Midda Schulen, lehrte Bauern nachhaltige Landwirtschaft, grub mit ihnen Brunnen, forstete das Land auf und vermittelte Mikrokredite. Vor fünf Jahren zog sich die Organisation aus der Region zurück. Ein Besuch zeigt: Die Menschen haben die Starthilfe genutzt. Midda hat sich grundlegend gewandelt.

Die Menschen in der Region Midda hatten vor 20 Jahren mit zahlreichen Problemen zu kämpfen. Midda gehörte zu den ärmsten Gebieten in Äthiopien. 90 Prozent der damals etwa 100.000 Einwohner lebte von der Land- und Viehwirtschaft. Fiel eine Ernte der Dürre zum Opfer, hungerten viele Familien. Für die stark wachsende Bevölkerung fehlten Ackerflächen, sauberes Trinkwasser, Krankenhäuser, Schulen und Lehrstellen.
